Longer wait for food than expected for a hamburger, the daily special, and a fried bologna sandwich. Hamburger smelled off and turnip greens smelled like dog food. Daily special was fried catfish with beans, greens, and potato casserole. My daughter only wanted the veggies, waitress said she would have to charge full price even if we didn't get the catfish. Used to love this place, but if I have a choice I won't be back.
even though I have eaten there 3 times in the past 2 weeks I wasn't to impressed.... those expensive cakes were just sitting there on the counter open... uncovered.. I thought really????? I ask for extra dressing for my salad today and I was charged 50 cents extra which is not much but really... she sure didn't take anything off because the waitress said is it ok because we are out of blue cheese crumbles...the salad I got was $10.. do you really have to charge extra for the dressing??? Other than the food the place was ok for shopping.
Food was good,fruit tea was the best I ever tasted. One slice of cake was large enough for 2 people. Nice casual ambiance. I will definitely be going back.
This was our first time eating here, although we've lived in Portland forever. Good food and friendly staff. We went on a Saturday and was expecting a long wait, but we were seated within 10 minutes.
They also have a great boutique with some really cool items and clothes. Definitely recommend checking it out!
5 Chefs is a great small town family restaurant. The menu is a little small as far as choices but the food is great. They have cold sandwiches, a selection of hot foods, and some great salad selections. What they are probably most know for is their cakes. In a word, phenomenal. No matter which one you choose, you're in for a treat.
